"Sports Months" in Hong Kong? 23-09-2016

"Sports Month" in Hong Kong? Once have an idea that the Hong Kong Government should promote some major activities to encourage the Hong Kong people to playing sports. The Hong Kong Government should put more resources on sports such as cycling. Hong Kong has held some major sports activities to promote sports before, such as the Sports For All Day which is organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) hold each year.

Although the Hong Kong government has done many efforts to promote sports activities in Hong Kong, however the participation and rate of Hong Kong people playing sports are still low. Therefore, I think the media and governments can give promotions to make Hong Kong people to get more interests in playing sports activities.

From the South China Morning Post (2016), it had taken cycling as an example of how the Hong Kong government cannot properly and particularly promote sports events. The article criticized the government not to promote cycling as the government had long supported the motion that bicycles should not be on the streets by refusing to recognize cycling as a valid transport (some Hong Kong people would use bicycle as one of their transport, rather than taken minibuses, buses or MTR). In Hong Kong, bicycle road is only located at part of some districts in New Territories in Hong Kong, such as Sha Tin, Tai Po, Tseung Kwan O, etc. Not all districts in Hong Kong can full cover with bicycle roads so some of the bicycle lovers would have to travel on the roads with other cars. This would cause danger with the bicyclers because it may cause traffic accidents.

Although most of the District Council in Hong Kong support that the governments should put more efforts and build more cycling road, the government still not yet well prepare for it. Hong Kong has a bicycle role model - Sarah Lee Wai-sze, who won a bronze medal in 2012 London Olympics. The article proves that as Hong Kong has many successful and brilliant athletes, and the government should put more resources on it. In my opinion, I also support that the government should put more resources on promoting sports. Though Hong Kong has many brilliant athletes, the Hong Kong government still not put enough resources on sports. I agree that building and expand cycling roads is a good idea and it must be in progress. I suggest that each district should have cycling roads, as Hong Kong has many beautiful coast that have enough places for build cycling roads. More cycling roads can let more Hong Kong people can have cycling. So that the Hong Kong people can have more opportunities to have more sports activities.

Rugby seems to be more popular in Hong Kong. A lot of Hong Kong people love to watch the Hong Kong Sevens. find interests in playing rugby. Many people in Hong Kong love to watch the Hong Kong Sevens. The premier tournament on the World Rugby Sevens Series competition hold in Hong Kong Stadium each year since 1976. In 2016, the sports events and competition have 22 countries and 28 teams to join this sports event. As Hong Kong is a global city, Hong Kong has different cultures to get attract more people to come to Hong Kong. Hong Kong Sevens, which is sponsored by the Cathay Pacific, help to promote the Tourism of Hong Kong, which can attract more tourists to come to Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Sevens can have more opportunities for other teams from different countries to have their chances joining the Rugby competition. In this news stories, the Pot Bellied Pigs, which are a social team in Hong Kong, and they also particular play in the Philippines. Hong Kong has given them opportunities to let to play the Rugby. They can have fun and enjoy their Rugby plays. It is because this international tournament can let them more famous. Also, the success of Pot Bellied Pigs can let them more famous in their nationwide. As a result, team members of Pot Bellied Pigs can teach rugby at schools in the Philippines. The tournament can go directly into the development of Rugby in the Philippines. Rugby has given them more opportunities. They can learn more about responsible and have a set of values. And as many people in the Philippines have drug addiction, playing Rugby can help them to escape from the drug stigma.

Compare to Hong Kong, Hong Kong has more resources than the Philippines. The Philippines find that Hong Kong Sevens can let them to have more opportunities. Hong Kong Sevens can get more foreigners come to Hong Kong to watch this tournament. The major audiences of Hong Kong Sevens are the foreigners. To have more promotions of Rugby, the Hong Kong government should give more sponsors on promoting Rugby, make Rugby becomes one of the popular local sports activities.

In my opinion, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) can organize some Rugby courses for the youngsters to play Rugby, make Rugby become more popular in Hong Kong. People in Hong Kong can have more acceptances to find that Rugby is a sport game which can attract more people to play. With more promotions, rugby can be one of the particular sports just like football. The LCSD can promote Rugby and sponsor it to make become one of the major sports events, just like volleyball, football and basketball. Sports activities should be civilized and make all people from different backgrounds can play with. The Hong Kong government hold more particular Rugby events so that it can let more people in Hong Kong to play and understand more on this sports game.
